Thirteen Things I wish I had known about Marriage The other person can't read your mind. There will be a lot of compromises. Happily ever after is a lie told in fairy tales. Kids change every dynamic in a relationship. Marriage won't solve whatever problems are in a relationship. As the years pass, sometimes you take each other for granted. People change over the years. You will have highs and lows. Communication is the key. It's easy to fall into a "same stuff, different day" mentality. It's easy to lose yourself for the needs of the other person or the kid(s). There are no happy endings. Why you got married may be completely different from why you stay married.
